Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

Celebrating Aviation Heritage

On Friday, 30 May, we had the great honour of welcoming the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to Aviation Park Group Ltd. The historic Lancaster PA474—originally rolled off the production line on 31 May 1945—returned to her birthplace at Broughton, marking her 80th birthday with dignity and pride.

Upon arrival, she was warmly greeted by the Airbus Beluga XL and staff, which stood by for a couple of hours at a welcome back event, before our dedicated team safely towed her back to the apron. The atmosphere was electric as crowds gathered along the fence line near the Chocks Away Diner to celebrate this magnificent piece of aviation history.

Our team was truly grateful for the hands-on opportunity to work with this iconic Lancaster Bomber, which was in the inspiring company of two of the Battle of Britain Spitfires which where hangared overnight. Amid a splash of fuel, a meticulous clean-up, and a quick team photo session, we shared in a moment of collective pride in our aviation legacy. Lancaster PA474 departed from Aviation Park Group at 12:30 on 31 May, leaving us already looking forward to the next chapter of this historic journey.

We eagerly anticipate welcoming the Memorial Flight back to Hawarden Airport anytime—continuing to celebrate the spirit, history, and ongoing legacy of aviation.
